Nestled in the northwest corner of Rwanda and bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) is home to the majestic Virunga Mountains and world-famous mountain gorillas.
Spanning over 160 km², this park was established in 1925, making it Africa's oldest national park. It harbors five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga range, with elevations ranging from 2,400m to 4,507m, creating diverse microclimates and ecosystems.
Beyond its extraordinary gorilla population, the park hosts golden monkeys, a rich variety of bird species, and stunning landscapes of bamboo forests, meadows, marshes and dramatic mountain terrain.
