For gorilla trekking experiences, we recommend booking at least 6-12 months in advance as permits are limited. For other experiences, 3-6 months is usually sufficient, though booking early is always recommended during peak seasons (June-September and December-January).
Rwanda can be visited year-round, but the dry seasons (June-September and December-February) are most popular. These periods offer the best conditions for gorilla trekking and safari experiences. The wet seasons can offer more affordable rates and lush landscapes.
Most visitors can obtain a visa on arrival or apply online in advance through the Rwanda Immigration website. Citizens of many African countries, as well as some other nations, are eligible for visa-free entry. We can provide specific guidance based on your nationality.
Gorilla trekking can be moderately to significantly challenging, depending on which gorilla family you're assigned to visit. Treks can range from 30 minutes to 6+ hours through dense forest and steep terrain. We can request easier treks for those with physical limitations.
Many of our experiences are family-friendly, though gorilla trekking is restricted to those 15 years and older. We can create custom itineraries that cater to families, with activities appropriate for children of various ages.
